Remembrance Day - Newport
Remembrance Sunday in Newport begins with a parade and ends in silence. The procession makes its way from High Street to the Cenotaph on Clarence Place, where veterans, armed forces personnel, civic representatives and hundreds of members of the public gather around the memorial. At eleven o'clock the city centre goes quiet, wreaths are laid, and for two minutes the ordinary business of a Sunday morning falls away. Photographing it asks for a light touch, so I worked quietly and looked for the details that carry the weight of it, a standard held steady, a hand on a wreath, the faces of those who have stood here every year. These images are a record of that morning, made with care and with respect for what the day means.
